Golden Hour Bridal Shoot

October 1, 2015

Inspiration shoots are a way for creatives, like myself and other industry vendors, to exercise our skills; it provides an outlet for our artistic whims, and allows us to play. A simple conversation over coffee can lead to impromptu shoots, such as this golden hour beauty.

Discussing the beautiful weather, the way the light after sunset bathes a specific site or location, or even an outfit we saw at one of our favorite vintage shops can get Alisha Khan and I excited for a shoot and we work well together for putting together last minute minis like this one.

With lots of styled wedding shoots roaming around our media feeds we decided we wanted to produce a simple shoot that was lower-key then the norm for bridal shoots but still pretty and we decided that a bridal shower theme might be a fun twist!

I am blessed to live in a region of Lake Country (in the Central Okanagan, BC Canada) that has amazing views. This site is at the end of my street with a gorgeous view of the lake an unkept grassy area that allowed us to nestle a golden-hour picnic just after a summer sunset.

My vintage settee is a favorite among my props. Pairing it with a retro slat-board column shelf that I turned on its side with a glass top as a coffee table, plays well with the rustic surroundings. The harder lines of the make-shift table with the soft and ornate curves of the settee compliments the fun and whimsical decor pieces.

What is a bridal shower without delicious treats and a champagne toast with fresh floral stir-sticks?! Vintage service pieces and glassware were filled with mini donuts, chocolate covered coconut fingers, lemon yogurt candies, and raspberry tarts, We layered the table with green glass, florals and fun chalkart signage for texture and interest.

The hair and make-up is fresh and fun with bit of edge and this 1950's Yellow Chiffon dress is perfection with our models fair skin and vibrant hair color. We layered it with some of my rhinestone collection (...cause a girl like me just happens to have piles of rhinestones laying around for such an occassion!), creating an ecclectic but chic element of bling for our model bride-to-be.
